For this article, I wanted to try something different and review the different food options provided by the school. Since we all eat lunch at school everyday I felt this was important to do. There are many different options, so it was fun to explore all of the possibilities we can eat.
The first food item I chose to review from the school is pizza. Pizza is a staple for many students’ lunch, and I can see why. The pizza was very solid, warm and had a great cheese to sauce to crust ratio. The crust was my favorite part; it was airy and delightful. Overall, I would rate the pizza at a 9 out of 10.
The next food item I chose to review was the International Bar. On the day I tried it, the option they were serving was the Gyro bar. I greatly enjoyed this option–the rice and pita balanced out the lamb very well, and the tzatziki sauce tied it all together perfectly. The only drawback was that the rice was a little undercooked, but the other excellent elements of this meal made up for it. This was definitely one of the better options I have had from the International Bar, and I would give it an 8.5 out of 10.
Another staple for many students that I tried was the chicken sandwich from the grill. While many days I do enjoy this meal, when I sampled it it was very dry, and left me hoping for more. It can be a good simple option, but can be inconsistent and I happened to get it on a bad day. Due to the dryness and chewiness, I would have to give it a 4 out of 10.
Many students’ favorite choice is the sub shop, an option so compelling a monitor is needed to combat cutting in line. I got a sub with ham, bacon, pepperoni, American cheese, lettuce, banana peppers and ranch dressing. I was very pleased with my choices, but I know everybody has their own favorite sub, and you really can not go wrong anyway. The sub was toasted to perfection, and was definitely worth getting. Really the only drawback that comes with the sub is the long wait. I would give the sub a 10 out of 10.
Another sub I tried was the spicy Italian sub from the G&J Pepsi Grab and Go. Conversely to the sub shop, this was a cold sub, but it was still solid. It was not anything special, but I was able to get it very quickly, so it served its purpose well as a grab and go. I enjoyed the sub, but the warm subs from upstairs were definitely better, so I will have to give this option a 7 out of 10.
The final option I tried was the Mexican Bar. It definitely had potential, but the rice was very undercooked and hard. The other elements of the meal were great, but the hardness of the rice made it very uncomfortable to eat. It had great potential, but I have to settle at a 5 out of 10 for this option.
Overall, there were many good options for food at this school, and there are many more that have great potential just lacking a little bit of execution. There is great variety, which makes the school a great place to eat at.
