After a long week of schoolwork and college applications, I think everyone deserves a fun and peaceful Saturday morning activity. The picky eater in me really wanted to just go to one of the four fast food places my friends and I go to all the time, but I am glad I chose to do something different for once.
Even though Littleton’s has been five minutes away from my house for almost two years, I must admit that this was the first time I ever stepped inside. Before I could even get to the front door, I was amazed by the sheer number of people enjoying their meals on the patio, considering I had gone only a few minutes before the OSU game. The atmosphere felt like the TikToks I always see where someone who lives in an East Coast coastal town goes to the farmers market to get fresh food and eats it while overlooking the ocean. While there is not an ocean in central Ohio, the market felt like something you could only find in Nantucket.
As soon as I went inside, I knew I had to stop at the cafe. As someone who spends most of their money on Starbucks, I am a sucker for a good refresher. I was very tempted to purchase an Iced Chai Tea Latte because I knew I would enjoy it, but instead I decided to get one of their signature smoothies. Since I have found a new love for Acai bowls, it seemed right to get the Acai Sunrise smoothie. It has acai, blueberries, coconut milk and strawberry puree in it and as a Pink Drink lover, I knew it would be the drink for me. When I first tried it all I could really taste was the milk, but after giving it a good shake I could taste the fruit, which tasted like nothing I had ever had. It was fresh and tasted like the berries were handpicked. It had been a while since I tried a smoothie from a small business, and I think this was the perfect reminder that I should do so more often.
After I acquired my drink to hold while shopping, I began looking around at all the different options for food. It was a hard choice between the sandwiches, salads and pastas, but I got the Lemon Orzo pasta salad because it looked like the pasta salad my grandma makes for our family gatherings. The lemon taste was strong throughout the entire dish, giving it a vibrant taste that made me feel like I was on the beach. My only regret was not buying more of it, as it is one of those foods you physically can not stop eating.
Since I was rewarding myself, I had to stop by the bakery to get a sweet treat. I have always been very particular about my desserts which usually leads to me not getting anything, but the Strawberry Elderflower Cupcake caught my eye. It looked so perfect that for the first time maybe ever I got excited to take a picture of my food before eating it. At first, I was a little skeptical about eating it and messing up the picture perfect pastry in front of me. I eventually gave in and ate it because it smelled so good. On the first bite I thought that it tasted like a snickerdoodle cookie, which is my favorite, and reminded me of Christmas. In the middle there was strawberry jam, which had the same fresh flavor as the smoothie. I am not usually a huge fan of jam, but it pleasantly surprised me although maybe that was because it was mixed with the sugary taste of the cupcake.
On my way out, I had to stop by the candy aisle where I picked out a bag of their C’est Bon Bons, which had a variety of candy in it ranging from candies similar to gummy bears, gummy worms and sour gummy worms. Surprisingly, they all had the same lemon taste that was the perfect mix between sour and sweet. They also tasted a little bit like fresh strawberries but that could have been the taste of the jam on the cupcake left over. When I have the name brand Sour Patch Kids or gummy worms the sugar burns my mouth and I can only have so much at a time. But with this that was not a problem C’est Bon Bons. From the community built around the market to their amazing pastries, I can say that I am happy I decided to go outside my comfort zone and try something new.
